Students wishing to pursue such careers should ensure that they will be able to meet the physical and educational requirements before enrolling. BACHELOR'S DEGREE 4 years (8 semesters) 2 co-op work terms STARTS SEPTEMBER ORILLIA APPROX. FIRST YEAR FEES: $7,723.88 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English U • Grade 12 U level Mathematics • Minimum overall average of 65% in six Grade 12 U or M level courses SELECTION PROCESS Selection is based on academic grades and subject prerequisites; applicants must meet minimum averages to receive final acceptance. This degree encourages a broadened critical understanding of the nature, role and function of policing. Learners will explore a variety of topics related to careers in law enforcement. The program offers an integrated learning approach to police education that will provide a diverse spectrum of students with the critical mix of professionalism, technical/legal expertise and analytical skills necessary to succeed in justice-related careers. This multi-dimensional degree complements, rather than duplicates, existing educational initiatives. Dynamic courses encourage increasing levels of thinking and analysis. Learning outcomes are designed to directly calibrate with the policing community and its high professional standards. Career opportunities This program will provide graduates with a variety of career opportunities. Primary career categories include: • Ontario Provincial Police service • municipal police services • out-of-province police services • Royal Canadian Mounted Police • Canadian Armed Forces • by-law enforcement • private police and investigations • asset management protection • corrections • youth justice Future study options: Graduates of BHSP may be granted direct entry into master's degrees at many universities, including Central Michigan University (US), Davenport University (US), Griffith University (Australia), and St. Mary's University (NS). See page 23 for details. BACHELOR OF HUMAN SERVICES (POLICE STUDIES) BHSP Students were mock victims in a staged crisis at the Meaford Fire Training Centre last year. Police, fire and EMS first responders practised reacting to a motor vehicle collision. The students experienced first-hand what it's like to receive emergency medical support. = COMPETITIVE = PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS
