FIRST YEAR FEES: $8,820.95 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) Students will develop the skills required to install, service, and maintain the environmental systems for residential buildings. This includes working with a variety of gas appliances as well as an introduction to refrigeration and air conditioning. There will be an emphasis on energy- efficient and environmentally friendly approaches. Students will also read, utilize, and produce heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning (HRAC) drawings using industry-standard software. Practical skills with sheet metal will be developed. The program will prepare students to write their Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) Gas Fitter II exams to become licensed gas technicians. Career opportunities The program primarily prepares students for careers as gas technicians. Employment may also be found in the areas of technical support and sales within the HRAC industry. Furthermore, this program introduces practical skills as well as industry-relevant applied math and science to facilitate transition into a variety of other trades within the HRAC industry such as: • sheet metal • air conditioning • refrigeration • plumbing • pipe fitting For those who want to work in these trades, an apprenticeship is required after graduation. Future study options: Graduates of HRAC may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Davenport University (US) and University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB). FIRST YEAR FEES: $7,019.42 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) This program covers all of the required skills needed to work in the hairstyling trade. Offered in a condensed format, students complete the diploma in one year. Through progressive levels of theory and practical techniques, the program focuses on hands-on training in hair cutting, styling and design, as well as colouring and lightening, chemical texturizing, permanent wave, and hair additions. In addition, students will be introduced to relevant legislation in the trade, health and safety issues, professional ethics, communication skills, and entrepreneurial practices. Career opportunities • Graduates of this program will have completed all required in-school hours for the trade certification exam. • Certified hairstylists may find work in a variety of hair salons or other businesses that require similar services (for example, the entertainment industry). • In addition, graduates may find work in industries that supply and manufacture hairstyling products. • In certain circumstances, individuals with an Ontario College Diploma may acquire additional educational credentials, which could offer enhanced employment opportunities.
