FIRST YEAR FEES: $8,004.95 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) This program provides the required skills to obtain the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) Gas Technician III and Gas Technician II certifications. Gas Technician III deals with workplace safety, tools, natural gas, codes/regulations, basic electricity, technical specifications, customer relations, basic piping systems, and gas appliances. Gas Technician II includes advanced piping/tubing systems, electricity, controls, systems, appliances, gas meters, pressure regulators, gas-fired refrigerators, conversion burners, water heaters, forced warm air heating systems, hydronic heating systems, space heating, venting practices, forced air add-on devices, and air handling. By the end of the program, students are prepared to write the TSSA Gas Fitter II exams to become qualified and licensed technicians. Career opportunities The program primarily prepares students for careers as gas technicians. Employment may also be found in the areas of technical support and sales within the industry. There are also a number of apprenticeships that graduates may pursue in areas such as: • sheet metal • refrigeration • plumbing • pipe fitting For those who want to work in these trades, an apprenticeship is required after graduation. GAS TECHNICIAN GAST ONTARIO COLLEGE CERTIFICATE 1 year (2 semesters) STARTS SEPTEMBER, JANUARY MIDLAND, OWEN SOUND APPROX. FIRST YEAR FEES: $3,833.06 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) This program provides students with the theoretical and practical training to perform most basic electrical techniques. At the completion of the program, students are ready to apply for work as electrician's helpers or apprentices, or they may choose to continue their education and apply for an Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist postsecondary program. Students will be exposed to topics including health and safety, reading of drawings, applied math, communications, electrical theory, electronic theory, installation practices, CAD and basic control system principles.
