FIRST YEAR FEES: $6,874.88 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) with recommended 80% minimum • Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U) with recommended 80% minimum • Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U) with recommended 80% minimum • Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C or U) with recommended 80% minimum • All applicants must possess a minimum G2 driver license (applicants with demerit points may not be eligible for employment) SELECTION PROCESS All applicants must write an admission test (HOAE). Selection is based on admission requirements, academic grades and testing results. Students are prepared with the knowledge and skills to practise emergency out-of-hospital medical/trauma care and to function as an integral member of the health care team in assisting victims of injury or illness. Graduates of the program have demonstrated their ability to safely and competently care for a diverse population in emergency and non-emergency situations. They administer medical interventions, including controlled medical acts, and provide compassionate care. The program is comprised of classroom, laboratory, hospital clinical and field placement experience. Career opportunities Graduates of the program are eligible to write the Ontario Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant Examination (AEMCA). If successful, graduates are eligible to seek employment with: • paramedic services • other agencies • health and safety • event medical services • military Future study options: Graduates of PARA may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Centennial College then University of Toronto (ON), Davenport Universtiy (US), Laurier Brantford (ON), Thompson Rivers University (BC), University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB), and University of Ontario Institute of Technology (ON). FIRST YEAR FEES: $4,419.56 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) with recommended 75% minimum • Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U) OR Grade 12 Exercise Science (U), or equivalent with recommended 75% minimum This program provides graduates with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to function competently in the role of an Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA and PTA) in a complex health care environment. OTAs and PTAs work under the supervision of – and in collaboration with – occupational therapists and physiotherapists and assist them in teaching and enabling clients to effectively cope with their limitations in movement, daily functioning, and activities whether temporary or permanent, during and following recovery. This program is a combination of the practical and theoretical, achieved through classroom, laboratory and field placement learning. Career opportunities Graduates enter a dynamic and challenging career which offers opportunities in a variety of health and community settings including: • acute care • complex continuing care • mental health facilities • community agencies • long-term care facilities • rehabilitation centres • vocational rehabilitation programs • sports clinics • children's treatment centres • schools • private industry Future study options: Graduates of OPTA may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Thompson Rivers University (BC), University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB), and University of Ontario Institute of Technology (ON).
