Business and Management Studies Tracy Miersch (née Dykstra), Business Administration – Automotive Marketing, 1998 After over 15 years in the automotive industry, I am currently an Insurance Advisor for Penncorp Life Insurance Company specializing in providing insurance products for the small business owners and self-employed tradespeople. While I no longer work directly in the automotive industry, I do work closely with the small business owners and tradespeople who keep the automotive industry alive and active in our smaller communities. Todd Schultz, Aviation Management, 2004 I have accepted an offer from the City of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, for the role of Airport Manager. I also hold a Canadian Commercial Pilot licence and I have a variety of other aviation industry experience. I am pleased to state that my studies at Georgian College's Canadian Aviation Institute have undoubtedly prepared me for this position and I look forward to any future opportunities that this experience may bring. Aimee Coulter, Business Administration – Accounting, 2005 My education at Georgian College helped me get the full-time job that I've had since 2004 when I was a student. Who knows where I'd be working if it wasn't for the co-op offered with my program! Heather Beairsto, Teaching and Training Adults, 2009 Through my employer, I was tasked with developing a training program for the customer service regulations set out in the province's Accessibility for Ontarian's with Disabilities Act. I engaged all of the skills and education I received through my Teaching and Training Adults studies to develop a successful program. The positive reception I received from my Accessibility Advisory Committee was the most gratifying experience of my career to date. The education I received while teaching others continues to serve me as I play a vital role in advocacy and support of my daughter who has health complications. My education from Georgian is not only producing bottom-line results for my employer, it is pushing me in new and exciting directions professionally and personally. Community Studies Amanda Spears, Early Childhood Education, 2006 I have been working with children with special needs for the Simcoe County District School Board going on six years now. David Goodwin, Social Service Worker, 2011 I am employed with the Barrie Community Health Centre in the role of Community Health Worker and I am grateful to the program and support staff at Georgian College's Orillia Campus for the role they played in my success. Lorelei Prout, Social Service Worker, 2012 As a mature student, I discovered that my Georgian education assisted me in landing my dream job, in my field, which commenced the Monday after my classes finished in April, 2012. I am now a Psychogeriatric Case Manager working with older adults with responsive behaviours. I am thrilled with my career and the education I received from Georgian that afforded me the opportunity to qualify for an interview and ultimately be hired. My education is not finished; however, for now, I am basking in the work I have always dreamed of doing. health and Wellness Catherine Turnbull, Nursing, 1976 I retired in 2010 but continue to work casually as a nurse. I am also the proud grandmother to Kaede who was born in 2010. Jennifer Moorby, Nursing, 1986 I spent the first year after graduation working in pediatrics on Moose Factory Island and then worked in the ER for seven years at the now closed Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. During that time, I also worked as a Client Services Co-ordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. After that I travelled and worked in various nursing and management roles throughout the U.S. in New Mexico, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware, Washington and Arizona. I also continued my education at Spring Arbor University and also worked as a critical care flight nurse. This year I began a new assignment in Fort Worth, Texas. Yvonne Stahlmann (née Hendry), Nursing, 1997 My husband Rob and I now have four kids and we moved up to Geraldton, Ontario, in October 2011, so that I could embrace the wonderful opportunity that I have been given as the Infection Control & Occupational Health Nurse Manager at the Geraldton District Hospital. We love it up here and are hoping that my contract will be made a permanent placement. Lynn McIsaac, Practical Nursing, 2000 The first ever Practical Nursing class of 2000 reunion was held on Sept. 22, 2012. We hope to make this an annual event. Design and Visual arts Andrea Wenckebach, Goldsmithing and Silversmithing, 2001 I recently won an award for "Best Utilization of Gemstones" at the 8th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Fine Jewellery and Metal Work by Zilberschmuck Art – Jewellery. Dorothy Kesseler, Web Animation and Design, 2012 Not only did my Georgian education impact my career, college gave me the confidence to exceed in everything I do. I achieved more than computer knowledge. I now write better content due to the mandatory communications courses, essays and blogs. I can speak to peers with a greater knowledge of general education subjects, including using my new conversational Spanish language skills when on holiday. Salud Georgian College. hospitality, tourism and Recreation Nancy McDonald (née Craig), Resort and Hotel Management, 1977 My daughter now goes to Georgian for the Veterinary Assistant program. I get to see all the changes going on at the campus. It looks great. Andrew West, Hotel and Resort, 1980 My wife Catherine and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in April. My son Drew and his wife Cassandra gave us our first grandchild last October, a beautiful baby girl, Jorja Rose. – marriages, moves, career changes, children, travel – anything you'd like to share with your former classmates.
