I want to support future generations of Georgian College students. Help inspire innovation and transform lives by making a donation to awards and scholarships. Education is life's greatest equalizer - regardless of where our students come from, with the right education and the right attitude, they can make their mark in life. The third annual Base Borden Run truly connected the military, education and business communities throughout Simcoe County in an effort to raise funds for the Operation Hero Scholarship. The scholarship is given to family members of military personnel pursuing an education at Georgian College. Student and Operation Hero Scholarship recipient Jennine Collier told the crowd of 650 runners what it means to her to be from a military family and how important the scholarship is to her studies. Her brother Sapper Brian Collier was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. She was among other scholarship recipients and student volunteers who helped the race run smoothly alongside key organizers. Thank you to the event organizers: Barrie Construction Association, Canadian Home Builders Association Simcoe County, Georgian International and Canadian Forces Base Borden. The run raised $31,024, bringing the total raised to date from all Base Borden Runs to $78,824. The 2013 run will take place in October. Visit www.operationhero. ca for more information closer to the date. Base Borden Run connects community for student scholarships 38 | GeorgianView 2012/13
