The excitement of adding two new state-of- the-art facilities to Georgian College in 2011 has proven to be a draw for students. Both the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness at the Barrie Campus and the John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus grew in enrolment, programs and services over the past year. The School of Health and Wellness delivers most of its 16 full-time programs in the Sadlon Centre. The newest program, Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant launched in September. Full-time enrolment in the school at the Barrie Campus increased by 6.3 per cent between fall 2011 and fall 2012. Almost 1,800 students are studying here in the fall semester to become the region's future health care workforce. "With all our programs under one roof, students benefit from learning from each other and professionals outside of their primary focus of study, making for a more well-rounded education," says Dean Dr. Cassandra Thompson. "And our six on-site clinics provide both a valuable service to the public, as well as great means for our students to learn together and practise quality collaborative health care." Georgian alumni, donors and members of the public can receive health care, treatments or assessments for reduced fees in the following clinics: • Massage Therapy 705-728-1968 ext. 1253 • Georgian College Optical 705-722-5159 • Oral Health 705-728-1968 ext. 1387 • Spa and Esthetics 705-722-1538 • Speech, Hearing and Language In addition, there is the Georgian Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic run by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care which offers all the services that patients would expect from a family practice. If you have a valid Ontario Health Card and do not have a health care provider in the area, you may apply to become a patient. If you would like to inquire, please call the clinic at 705-722-1581. About 3,500 clients are already using one or more of the clinics. Learn more about each clinic, including its hours, at www.georgiancollege.ca/ healthandwellness. Satellite campus expands program offerings Like the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness, the John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus can now house more students and programs since it opened its first permanent location in September 2011. "With all our programs under one roof, students benefit from learning from each other and professionals outside of their primary focus of study, making for a more well-rounded education" says Dean Dr. Cassandra Thompson.
