GRADitude As the most personally-connected learning organization in Canada, Georgian employees value their interactions with students. Through these connections, they know many students struggle financially while attending college. That is why Georgian family members from every level helped raised money for important student services, from the Board of Governors to support staff, faculty, administrators and retirees. In addition, the Alumni Association and the Students' Administrative Councils from the Barrie, Orillia, Owen Sound and Orangeville campuses made leadership gifts. A total of $677,154 was raised that will go towards The Food Locker, technology, awards and scholarships, varsity athletics, an emergency assistance fund, and access to postsecondary courses for non-traditional students. In June, councillors and staff from the County of Simcoe visited Georgian to deliver $500,000 in support of the Sadlon Centre for Health and Wellness and the John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus. Both facilities are equipped with modern technologies such as video conferencing that allow students to access lectures and workshops hosted elsewhere without having to leave Simcoe County. The gift is part of the County's $4-million multi-year pledge to the college. "County Council recognizes the importance of continually enhancing access to postsecondary education. We want our residents to be able to study, train and work locally," said Warden Cal Patterson.
