Seventeen years as an emergency room
nurse helped to prepare Sheona Kloostra
for the rigorous pace that accompanies life
as an entrepreneur.
While in nursing, Kloostra saw a growing
need in her community for private,
registered nurse-managed health care for
those who are ill and want to be cared for
in their home. "People need single point of
contact care when they or their loved one
are at their most vulnerable," she says.
Alas, Happy At Home was born to serve
those with medical challenges and/or
those who are at the palliative care stage.
Kloostra developed this company
from the ground up, writing
policy, developing her own best
practice standards of care and
marketing the business. Since
2007, the Orillia-based business
has created more than 50 jobs
in Simcoe County for registered nurses,
personal support workers and home care
companions, as well as touched the lives of
over 1,100 clients.
"Being able to offer clients custom,
second-to-none care when they want
it, where they want it, is my proudest
achievement," says Kloostra.
Growing demand for her service has
resulted in 10 new franchise locations
planned for the next two years in areas
of the province which are medically
underserviced.
