Michael Osborne Law and Security, 1987 Chief of Midland Police A 26-year veteran of the policing profession, Michael Osborne, Chief of Midland Police, uses a combination of experience and innovation to continuously improve the public safety system. Osborne is a member of the Ontario Justice on Target (JOT) Committee. JOT is the province's strategy to address criminal court delay, using an evidence-based approach to increase the effectiveness of Ontario's criminal courts. Launched in 2008, JOT supports local court leaders as they identify, implement and sustain more effective practices. "If we can reduce the wait and number of appearances for all those involved with a court case, it not only saves the province money but also alleviates any unneeded stress in what are usually stressful situations," Osborne said. The 47-year-old Chief also strives to make a difference in provincial policing as Vice President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and Chair of the Ontario Police Technology Information Cooperative. Osborne knows community impact goes beyond career. He coaches local sports, assists in mental health groups and stays active in the lives of those who are struggling with homelessness and poverty. He serves on several boards including the Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Services and New Path Youth and Family Services. "People are struggling everywhere," Osborne said. "I've mixed what I learned at Georgian with life's lessons and realized that I'm here to prevent crime; that doesn't mean always arresting folks. Preventing means being involved and helping others find another way." "People are struggling everywhere.
