Georgian's new Executive Director of Corporate Training has designed and led hundreds of learning programs in her 25-year career in training and development. During that time, one of the most common challenges Shona Welsh has encountered is that many organizations view training as an expense rather than an investment. "There are many reasons for that perception," says Shona, "including the fact that a lot of training does not support organizations in achieving business results." But training consultants and organizations bear equal responsibility for that. "It's definitely a two-way street. Trainers need clients to be clear about their intended outcomes. On the other hand, clients need trainers who are skilled in root cause analysis," she says. Now that she has joined Georgian, Shona is eager to share her 'top ten myths' of training with clients so they can make the best decisions about where to focus their valuable training dollars. Shona invites organizations considering investing in training to invite her to their next management meeting and learn more about each of these training myths, including how to address them. You can reach her at shona.welsh@georgiancollege.ca.
