HEALTH AND SAFETY 24 2016 MARINE CERTIFICATION AND REGULATORY TRAINING marinetraining@georgiancollege.ca PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT In 2013, WSIB served almost 4.4 million workers, more than 287,000 employers, registered over 194,000 claims and issued $2,518 million in payments to or on behalf of Schedule 1 workers and families 1 . Pain and suffering affects thousands of workers each year as well as their families, communities and workplaces. Personal Protective Equipment and PPE safety training are crucial to preventing costly and demoralizing accidents. Upon completion of the PPE program, candidates will: • Know how to inspect their workplace and analyze their job function to determine what potential hazards exist • Recognize what category of Personal Protective Equipment is needed in various hazard situations • Know what types of equipment within each category are most appropriate for the various types of hazards that they may encounter • Know how to analyze those hazards and decide what categories of Personal Protective Equipment would be appropriate • Be able to select the particular type of protective equipment (in each category) most applicable to each task they perform Course code: MARI 0116 Course length: One day (six hours) Course fee: $285 Available upon request. Please call 1.866.468.3225 to discuss this option. 1 By the numbers: 2013 WSIB Statistical Report/Schedule 1 VIOLENCE IN THE WORKPLACE After completing this awareness course, the student will have a fundamental knowledge of relevant definitions regarding violence in the workplace; causes and forms of violence in the workplace; relevant legislation orientation; components of a workplace violence prevention program; and characteristics of violent offenders. VESSEL PERSONNEL WITH SECURITY RESPONSIBILITY This course is intended to provide the knowledge required for seafarers with designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan to perform their duties in accordance with the Marine Transportation Security Act (MTSA)*, the Marine Transportation Security Regulations (MTSR)*, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and the IMO model course as appropriate to the submission: (3.19, 3.26, 2.27). The aim of this course is to fully explain to vessel personnel their potential responsibilities on board their vessels. Those successfully completing the course will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge to undertake the duties under the Vessel Security Plan.
