9 MEDS AND STCW TRAINING REGISTER NOW – 705.722.1516 OR 1.888.812.7511 marinetraining.ca INFORMATION ABOUT MED TRAINING CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS FOR MED TRAINING The following clothing is required for the MED practical exercises: • Swimsuit or shorts and a towel for pool exercises • Outside winter clothing for fire or lifeboat exercises – hats, gloves etc. • Clothing suitable for dirty environment – coveralls/ work clothes for firefighting exercises • Heavy socks • Footwear suitable for outdoor work The college provides full protective firefighting clothing, coveralls and boots. NOTE: Georgian College provides all standard sizes of immersion suits for the training. Candidates with special needs are required to bring their own immersion suits. CLASS HOURS Please note that the classes generally include weekends. Class size is restricted to a max.imum of 12 to optimize practical training time and to lessen the risk of accidents. MEDICAL CLEARANCE Training in marine firefighting and in the use of lifeboats and life rafts requires a student to engage in moderately strenuous physical activity. For example, a student must carry equipment and fight a fire while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and a student must single-handedly right a large capsized life raft while in water seven feet deep. A Medical Fitness Report is mandatory and must be submitted prior to the start of the course. This applies to applicants who are taking MED A1, A2 and all STCW courses. Medical examinations completed within the past year are acceptable, provided that proof of the examination is supplied prior to the course. Medical fees and other course-related costs are the responsibility of the student. A Medical Fitness Report form can be downloaded at marinetraining.ca (click on the medical forms link). NOTE: This Medical Fitness Report form does not replace the Transport Canada requirement for a medical examination certificate issued under the authority of the Marine Personnel Regulations. TRANSPORT CANADA MARINE SAFETY AND SECURITY TRAINING CERTIFICATE A Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) training certificate will be issued on course completion. Full attendance and participation is required to receive any TCMSS certificate. CANDIDATE DOCUMENT NUMBER (CDN) Persons who require a Canadian Maritime Document (CMD) or other Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) document, issued by or on behalf of TCMSS under Part 3 of the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 (CSA 2001), must first obtain a Candidate Document Number (CDN).
