BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES The program This program will prepare you to provide a client-centred and client-driven continuum of treatment for individuals with addiction problems. Building on a solid framework of individual and group counselling skills, you'll study individual, gender and societal considerations and the resulting treatment implications. You'll also examine the unique needs of selected populations. While a range of treatment modalities is explored, special attention will be given to motivational interviewing techniques and to the importance of matching client needs with intervention options. In addition, the principles and strategies of effective prevention and education practices are reviewed. Graduate career opportunities • Addictions counsellors • Substance abuse counsellors • Chemical withdrawal management counsellors • Problem/compulsive gambling counsellors • Attendants in residential, out-patient and street-front treatment settings Admission requirements • Postsecondary diploma or degree, with a specialty in human, health or social sciences Selection process Applicants will be required to submit a transcript; it is recommended that students achieve a minimum 70% average upon conclusion of their postsecondary studies. Applicants will be selected based on their academic grades. Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check, required prior to internship.
