The program Paramedics will be provided with advanced knowledge and skills to prepare them to function as leaders in emergency situations and practise emergency health care. As a graduate of this program, you'll have the ability to safely and competently care for patients of all ages and administer advanced medical treatment measures. Graduate career opportunities Graduates are eligible to write the Ontario Advanced Care Paramedic certification exam and gain employment as advanced care paramedics with ambulance services throughout the province and across Canada. Admission requirements • Two-year Ontario College Primary Care Paramedic diploma and a current Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (A-EMCA) license or equivalent. • A minimum 2,000 hours or 1 year experience in an urban EMS setting, or equivalent, is required. Selection process: Applicants will be selected based on EMS experience, resumé, reference letter(s) and selection testing in Primary Care Paramedic Theory: • Resumé containing information about your academic background, related work experience, volunteer experience and extracurricular activities, etc., including detailed EMS experience • Reference letter from a base hospital and/or medical director • Selection testing in primary care paramedic theory will be done at this time • If English is not your first language, refer to the English language proficiency policy Field placement requirements • Completion of college immunization record • Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check, required prior to field placement Graduation requirements Students are required to complete 8 mandatory courses • 1 internship Future study options Graduates of this program may be granted credit toward degree studies at other institutions including Thompson Rivers University.
