Georgian College and Lakehead University: A partnership that keeps growing Imagine more students moving seamlessly between college and university – transferring credits, or starting a program in college, completing it at university, and then graduating with a joint degree that packs a one-two punch with future employers. These are the kinds of innovative postsecondary opportunities that will become available to students through a new partnership between Lakehead University and the Georgian University Partnership Centre. Collaboration between Georgian and Lakehead continues in many ways. The two institutions hold an annual Business 2 Innovation event that brings together college and university researchers with local business leaders. This year's event highlighted applied research results generated by student work in Georgian's Centre for Applied Research and Innovation and as part of Lakehead Orillia's Master of Business Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies programs. The partnership is aimed at creating student-centred, student-focused learning. Lakehead and Georgian are working together to develop seamless and effective pathways for students at both institutions. As for the future, concepts under consideration include: The newest benefit of the partnership is the creation of two articulation agreements that allow qualified Georgian graduates to gain advanced standing in select programs at Lakehead. Georgian grads can earn a degree with just over two years of additional study. •Graduates from the Georgian College General Arts and Science two-year diploma program are eligible for up to 8/20 transfer credits in Lakehead's Honours Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies programs, with specializations in Political Science, Psychology or Sociology. •Graduates from Georgian College's Environmental Technology three-year diploma program are eligible to transfer into the Honours BASc Environmental Sustainability program, with credit for up to 9/20 credits. •In each pathway, a minimum of 70 per cent GPA is expected.
