What is Co-operative education? Co-operative education is an educational system blending career goals with college academic studies to enhance students' skills through real and relevant industry experience. It's a three-way partnership between employers, students and educational institutions that has benefits for all participants: • Employers benefit from highly motivated students who are available for special projects and peak workload periods. • Students gain valuable work experience. • Georgian College enhances its reputation for providing career-oriented applied education. A variety of work-integrated learning opportunities are facilitated and supported by Georgian, including co-ops, internships and field placements. Co-op opportunities are full-time, block, paid work terms connected to a student's academic learning. Students are available for work at various times of the year. Most work terms start in September, January and May and are typically four months in length. Select programs have eight-month work terms. Students enrolled in co-op programs alternate and sequence their academic terms with work experience, while internships take place at the end of the student's program. What are the benefits of hiring a student? • You may be eligible for an Ontario Co-operative Education Tax Credit of up to $3,000 per student. • Free up permanent staff for more complex tasks, new projects or vacation time; students are available year-round. • Assist with your succession planning by assessing students before considering them for permanent employment. • Evaluate on-the-job performance for future full-time positions; reduce training periods for future graduate hiring. "Volkswagen Canada has placed dozens of Georgian students within our organization over the past 30 years. Because the college attracts such a high calibre of student, we are virtually guaranteed a high-quality intern, one who is ready, willing and able to perform any manner of job." | Thomas Tetzlaff, Manager, Media Relations, Volkswagen Canada "Pfaff's relationship with Georgian began over two decades ago, when we started recruiting skilled and qualified students. In many ways, our current success is in part due to the great relationship we've built. Many of our managers and key positions are held by Georgian graduates." | Patty Ruggia, Recruiter, Pfaff Automotive Partners 100% A recognized leader in co-op education with of programs emphasizing practical, hands-on learning. 13,000+ full-time students and 5,500+ international students from 92 countries.
