Co-operative Education
Tax Credit
A refundable tax credit is available to eligible employers
who hire students enrolled in a recognized Ontario
university or college co-operative education program.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers the
program on behalf of Ontario through the federal
income tax system. The Co-operative Education Tax
Credit reimburses employers 25 per cent of eligible
expenditures. Smaller businesses are eligible for a
higher credit rate of 30 per cent. The maximum credit
for each qualifying work placement is $3,000. Most work
placements are for a minimum employment period of 10
weeks up to a maximum of four months.

"What was life changing for me was the real-life
experience. You were working with real people, using
real-life industry skills every day. My co-op placements
reinforced my academic/career plans and fostered
long-term relationships through various networking
opportunities with co-workers."
