8 GEORGIANVIEW DIGITAL WINTER 2024-25
2024 PREMIER'S AWARDS
Entrepreneurship can often feel like a lonely undertaking and an uphill battle. When Georgian grad Markie Tuckett left
her job as principal designer at a kitchen and bath design company to start her own business, she did so without capital,
credit, clients or contacts. But with creative determination, a spirit of "community over competition" and a complex
skillset nurtured through her time at Georgian, Tuckett has built a thriving business and is now passing along her expertise
to other small businesses—creating a supportive community where everyone can succeed.
Upon joining the Interior Decorating program, Tuckett was introduced to the foundational principles of her chosen field
while honing in on specific areas that interested her most in the profession, like cabinetry and kitchens. And beyond
the vast knowledge and techniques she learned in the classroom, the experiential learning opportunities that Georgian
integrates into every program are what she considers to be the most transformative part of the experience.
