Changemaking IN ACTION • launched a Changemaker Workplace designation with the Barrie Chamber of Commerce for small- to medium-sized businesses to connect employers and students who share likeminded values, • co-created a Community Innovation Network with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka to explore how community services will maintain relevancy into the future and bring agency to underrepresented groups, • collaborated with partners to encourage organizations in our region to commit to the 50-30 Challenge, which is aimed at advancing gender parity and representation of equity- deserving groups, • developed a motorcycle pilot program with Elizabeth Fry Society Simcoe Muskoka to support youth facing barriers to postsecondary education or meaningful employment, • held a Connecting Neighbours event to bring students, landlords, local organizations and the community together, • grew donor-supported awards and scholarships and mobilized support for our on-campus student food bank to increase access, reduce financial barriers to postsecondary and address food insecurity, • coordinated efforts to bring together two significant events recognizing intersectional identities – Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month, • introduced Sustainably Speaking, a podcast featuring uplifting stories from individuals and organizations making progress toward the SDG, and • held multiple events led by our students to fundraise for various causes, including a family-friendly maple syrup festival in support of the Barrie Food Bank and Georgian Food Locker. • Georgian saved 743 tons in CO2 last year, which is the equivalent of taking 148 cars off the road annually. • Diverted 158 tonnes of material from four campuses to the landfill – equal to about 315 polar bears. Also diverted 135 tonnes of material from construction and renovation projects. • Introduced waterless urinals through innovative technology to save on unnecessary water usage and better manage the flow of waste. • Since 2012, saved 4 billion water bottles from landfills through our hydration stations.
