Graduate Certificate programs PROGRAM DETAILS CREDENTIAL CAREER OPTIONS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Autism and Behavioural Sciences ATBS n Students develop an understanding of current theories and treatment methodologies used to treat Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and incorporate modified practices and procedures appropriate to the child and the situation. Emphasis is placed on the design and implementation of effective behavioural treatment plans according to the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI). The curriculum covers the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment, the characteristics of ASD, as well as child development and augmentative-communication systems. This provides students with the expertise in the field of autism and behavioural science for application within the autism and children's service sector. Theories, terminology and applications to current approaches to teamwork and working with families of children with ASD are presented. GeorgianCollege.ca/PTATBS OCAS application required (program code: ATBS) Ontario College Graduate Certificate Graduates may find employment opportunities in autism services and children's services as instructor therapists for regional providers of pre-school programs or with private providers of intensive behavioural intervention (IBI) therapy to families under the supervision of regional providers of pre-school programs, with autism treatment teams or as autism specialists in agencies providing autism services, or in school boards that deliver programs for children with autism, as well as other community and service agencies. 9 mandatory courses, and 2 field placements. Therapeutic Recreation TREC n Students learn to provide client-centred, strength-based therapeutic recreation services using the therapeutic recreation process. Students acquire the skills to complete client assessments and to develop, implement and evaluate group and individual therapeutic recreation programs. A variety of facilitative techniques are explored in order to assist individuals to participate in meaningful recreation and leisure experiences that will achieve health-related goals, improve functional ability, and increase quality of life.
