In this module, students apply theoretical and practical knowledge through observation and participation in care of clients in a variety of selected hospital departments and outpatient clinics. Students gain an understanding of the role of the interprofessional team in the continuing care of clients in the community. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Prerequisite(s): HSCI 0299 HSCI 0311 l 120 HRS OTHER HEALTH AND WELLNESS COURSES GeorgianCollege.ca/PTHEALTH Basic Phlebotomy This six-hour course includes theory and simulated lab practice. Content includes anatomy of the venous system, review of anticoagulants, tourniquets, cleaning solutions, needle collection systems, and venipuncture techniques. Prerequisite: students must be enrolled in their last semester or have completed one of the following programs: RN, RPN, RT, Lab Technician, Medical Administration, Paramedic or PSW. HSCI 0012 l 6 HRS | BA, OS Dialysis Technical Assistant This course provides theory and observational opportunities for students to learn the skills and best practices related to the role of the dialysis technical assistant. Observation in a dialysis unit will provide a point of reference for applying recently learned theory. HSCI 0123 l 66 HRS RPN Coronary Care This course provides RPN's with the knowledge to deliver care to cardiac patients in a variety of settings. Content will include anatomy and psychology of the cardiovascular system, associated disease processes, basic cardiac dysrhythmias, risk factors and aspects of teaching clients. HSCI 0119 42 HRS Rhythm Interpretation Students acquire the comprehensive knowledge and skills required to accurately interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias. Students will build on entry-to-practice knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart, thorax and lungs, and peripheral vascular system. Students learn to interpret, evaluate, and respond to pertinent diagnostic data in a timely and appropriate manner. Prerequisite: College of Nurses Ontario (CNO) license. RNRS 1048 42 HRS | BA Introduction to Taping Techniques This introductory taping course covers techniques involved with the application of kinesiology tape for commonly seen clinical presentations such as sprains, joint dysfunctions and instabilities. Participants review and practice taping techniques within the session. Please wear comfortable athletic attire such as shorts and/or short sleeved shirts. One roll of tape is provided. FITW 0138 6 hours | BA, OS Registered Nurse Prescribing: Safe and Ethical Practice To support the safe and ethical practice for Registered Nurse Prescribers, this online, self-directed course provides students with the knowledge, skills and clinical judgement required to safely and effectively meet the Registered Nurse Prescribing Entry to Practice Competencies identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The course consists of four primary subject areas: Introduction of Registered Nurse (RN) Prescribing - Professional Responsibilities and Accountabilities; Professional and ethical responsibilities of the Registered Nurse (RN) prescriber; RN Prescribing: Assessment and diagnosis; and Pharmacotherapy and other therapeutic interventions in client care. This course addresses theoretical knowledge, application of knowledge to practice scenarios and evaluation of knowledge (both summative and formative). A clinical component, within the RN's current work environment and supervised by a prescriber (physician or nurse practitioner), provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge in practice-based scenarios/ environments. A minimum of 20 client interactions resulting in a prescription, assessed and validated by the prescribing mentor, is required for successful course completion.
