Participants gain insight into the historical perspective, current state and future direction of community paramedicine practice. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine Micro-certificate. Students may apply for this program directly through the registration. HSCI 0303 l 24 HRS Health Promotion Through the Lifespan In this module, students examine concepts of health promotion and attainment, disease prevention, health restoration and chronic disease management. Determinants of health, normal growth and development and risk mitigation in a variety of populations are discussed. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. HSCI 0304 l 14 HRS Anatomy and Physiology – Systems Review Using a systems-based approach, students review human body structure and function of a variety of age groups. The interrelationships of these systems as they relate to normal human physiology are examined. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Concurrent Requisite: HSCI 0295 HSCI 0305 l 16 HRS Pathophysiology – Systems Review (micro-credential) Students examine common pathophysiological conditions experienced by a diverse patient populations which may be encountered in the field of community paramedicine. Conditions of the respiratory, cardiovascular, hematological, neurological, MSK and integumentary and the GI/GU/Renal systems are emphasized. Mental health, special conditions such as malignancies and homeostatic conditions are also studied. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Concurrent Requisite(s): HSCI 0294 HSCI 0306 l 28 HRS Health Assessment for Community Paramedics Students develop advanced assessment skills related to the physical and psychosocial aspects of the individual, including concepts of holistic care and transcultural considerations. They demonstrate history-taking, as well as psychomotor skills (inspection, percussion, palpation, and auscultation) using relevant technology. Common diagnostic and point of care tests are reviewed. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Prerequisite: HSCI 0293 and HSCI 0294 and HSCI 0295 HSCI 0307 l 48 HRS Therapeutics for the Community Paramedic Using didactic instruction, simulation and case-based discussions, students examine the integration and application of therapeutic interventions into the patient's plan of care. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Prerequisite: HSCI 0296 HSCI 0308 l 56 HRS Pharmacology for the Community Paramedic Students investigate the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and application of over the counter and prescription medications commonly seen in the community. Students have the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for the safe administration of medications using a variety of learning activities with emphasis placed on those medications commonly encountered in Community Paramedic practice. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Prerequisite: HSCI 0292 HSCI 0309 l 36 HRS Simulation Lab for Community Paramedics Students apply practical skills and concepts from prerequisite courses while participating in integrated case-based scenarios related to the care of the individual in a simulated community setting. This practical component provides the opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge, clinical reasoning, judgment and critical thinking skills necessary to be successful in providing care to their patients as a community paramedic. This module is part of the Community Paramedicine micro-certificate. Prerequisites: HSCI 0296 and HSCI 0297 and HSCI 0298 HSCI 0310 l 56 HRS | Hybrid/BA Health and Wellness courses
