33 GEORGIANVIEW 2024 PRINT EDITION FRONTLINE SUPPORT "Health-care workers are vital. This contribution will enable Georgian College to continue its outstanding work and further its impact on the education sector and local community. We recognize the college's pivotal role in shaping the future of health care by empowering students and driving positive change in our communities." | Lexi Brand, Director, Brand Family Foundation Currently, the renovated space is being used by students, faculty and staff in Georgian's Health, Wellness and Sciences programs, but access to the labs and technology will be expanded to other academic areas for collaborative learning. "The space has different presets that really allows the learner to experience the situation or scenario at a different level or deeper exploration that may be impossible or dangerous in a real-life situation," says Treva. "The additional benefit is more about how many individual programs want to get together for interprofessional collaboration or have shared learning opportunities within the environment. Ultimately, seeing the faculty explore further options to transform their educational content is exciting to see." Generous donor support, institutional investment and government support has helped make this investment in world-class technology possible, further strengthening the college's reputation of offering an unrivaled student experience. The renovation project also created a high-fidelity simulation suite, obstetrics lab, a community learning suite named in honour of the Rotary Club of Barrie, pediatric lab named in honour of Deb DeCaire (Skipwith), Steve Blanchet and families, and a series of flex labs, all of which have received significant new upgrades in equipment and layout. In 2021, Georgian launched its Frontline Support: Health-care Heroes Closer to Home campaign seeking to raise funds to renew facilities and equipment and create new awards, scholarships and bursaries, at both the Barrie and Owen Sound campuses. The campaign raised close to $6 million to support health-care education innovation and student success. | The room is equipped with 360-degree cameras to enable the customization of virtual-reality spaces without the use of a headset, thereby placing participants in their exact working environment. | For more information and stories on the Frontline Support campaign and the people behind its success, visit GeorgianCollege.ca/frontlinesupport.
