39 GEORGIANVIEW 2024 PRINT EDITION AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Your career success and satisfaction as a Georgian graduate are important to us. All Ontario colleges participate in a government-led graduate satisfaction survey for recent graduates. Six months after you graduate, and again two years later, you'll be contacted by Forum Research Inc. to share your thoughts. Please know that all your responses and information provided to Forum Research will be kept strictly confidential and only shared with Georgian College. Your feedback can help shape Georgian's future, so we can continue to meet the needs of our students and alumni. Our Institutional Research team is here to answer any questions or concerns that you have. Email feedback@georgiancollege.ca. You can keep your alumni contact information up to date at GeorgianCollege.ca/alumni. Courtney Duthie (class of 2014 and 2017), Research Analyst, Institutional Research Alumni: share how you're doing Supporting our future generation The Georgian College Alumni Association honours two recipients annually with the Child of Alumni Award. The award is provided to students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need, and who are also the children of Georgian alumni. The 2023 recipients of the scholarship are Maryam Ismail and Cassie Irwin. Maryam (class of 2023) and her mom Sharon Safa Rigby (class of 2020 and 2021) are currently enrolled in the Indigenous Community and Social Development program together and will graduate in 2024. If you asked Maryam five years ago if she could see herself receiving an award or even a diploma, she would've said no, as she struggled with feelings of belonging as an immigrant of Egyptian descent and Indigenous woman. "I am so happy to be receiving this award and feel like my family line is moving forward in a good way," she says. "We don't have family legacies due to the restrictions and consequences of the Indian Act, so this award feels like my family is moving forward to be educated, recognized and serving community. Georgian has changed my life and my family's lives." Cassie is a second-year Practical Nursing student. She's the daughter of Penny Irwin (class of 2011), a graduate of the Personal Support Worker program. "This award means a lot to me as it helped me through the toughest semesters in school," says Cassie. | Maryam Ismail (class of 2023) and her mom Sharon Safa Rigby (class of 2020 and 2021) | Cassie Irwin (current student) | To support deserving students visit GeorgianCollege.ca/giving
