31 GEORGIANVIEW 2024 PRINT EDITION NEW TECHNOLOGY It's a Brand new world For Vibhu Vibhu, nursing is more than just a career; it's a profound calling that aligns with her passion and aspirations. "I find immense satisfaction in helping others during their most vulnerable and joyful moments," says the second-year Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BScN) student. "The ability to make a positive impact on someone's life, no matter how small, is what drew me to this profession." BScN students, like Vibhu and those from other programs using the state-of-the-art technology and updated learning spaces in the Dr. MaryLynn West- Moynes Nursing and Wellness Wing, say its a game changer. "We now have the capabilities of offering a high-risk scenario on expensive equipment displayed virtually on the walls of our new simulation room," says Dr. Treva Job, Manager, Simulation Centre, Health, Wellness and Sciences. "This ultimately will decrease costs and keep students safe while learning in high-risk maneuvers or situations." Georgian College has transformed 15,000 square feet in the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences into state-of-the-art classrooms and simulation spaces, which include a 360-degree simulation centre featuring a world-class AI-generated manikin. It's a leading-edge example in health-care education, thanks to a $250,000 donation to the Frontline Support: Health-care Heroes Closer to Home campaign from the Brand Family Foundation. The exceptional space is now known as the Brand Family 360° – Interdisciplinary Simulation Space. "Health-care workers are vital. This contribution will enable Georgian College to continue its outstanding work and further its impact on the education sector and local community," says Lexi Brand, Director, Brand Family Foundation. "We recognize the college's pivotal role in shaping the future of health care by empowering students and driving positive change in our communities." In a unique design, all surfaces in this space respond to touch, and the sounds, smells and props in the simulation provide a powerful learning experience. The room is equipped with 360-degree cameras to enable the customization of virtual-reality spaces without the use of a headset, thereby placing participants in their exact working environment so when they start a field placement or career in a health-care setting, they're more prepared. | Dr. Treva Job, Manager, Simulation Centre, watches as student vibhu vibhu listens to world-class AI-generated manikin Hal's heartbeat.
