CONVOCATION 2024 | GeorgianCollege.ca 11 Presentation of President Emerita (10 a.m.) Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes Retired President and CEO of Georgian College Will receive the Board of Governors' Emeritus/Emerita Award. Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes served an outstanding 37-year career in postsecondary education. She was President and CEO of Georgian and Mohawk College; Vice President – Academic and Chief Operating Officer at Durham College; and a strategic architect in the creation of Ontario Tech University. Her accomplishments are significant and varied. Notably, she championed a partnership with Lakehead University to increase degree capacity; engaged in influential advocacy that resulted in Georgian and other eligible colleges launching Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing degrees to meet critical health-care demands; and drove the opening of the Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre and Algoma Central Corporation Marine Emergency Duties Centre. With her strong support, Georgian became the first – and only – Ashoka U designated changemaker college. Dr. West-Moynes was named to the Order of Ontario in 2023. Featured alumni speaker (10 a.m. and 3 p.m.) Nadia George Social Service Worker (class of 2009) Nadia George is a graduate of Georgian's Social Service Worker program (class of 2009). She's an internationally recognized, award- winning actor and public speaker. Her hands-on involvement in delivering resources for clean drinking water, water education programs and over a decade of professional experience in social services, underscores her commitment to environmental justice, mental health and Indigenous rights. A proud Georgian alumna, as an ambassador and advisor to numerous non-profit organizations, Nadia is instrumental in advancing missions that support vulnerable communities in Canada, particularly in addressing water challenges and safeguarding the privacy and protection rights of individuals with experience in the Child Welfare System. Nadia's impact is undeniable, recognized through prestigious accolades such as the 2021 Ontario Premier's Award in the Creative Arts and Design category, the 2020 Georgian College Board of Governors' Awards of Distinction – Distinguished Alumni Award, and the 2023 Toronto Waterfront Community Activism Award. #ProudGeorgianGrad
