The new Georgian College
Coat of Arms design includes
several Indigenous elements
designed in collaboration with
an Indigenous artist: the centre
wave, which includes the colours
of the Métis sash, a white pine
tree and roots intertwined on
the back of a turtle, and the
wind-blown white pine, known
as the Tree of Peace in People
of the Longhouse culture.
Georgian is one of only a few colleges in
Canada to offer a diploma program in Indigenous
language, specifically Ojibwe. We received gold in
Indigenous Education at the 2023 World Federation of
Colleges and Polytechnics' Awards of Excellence for our
efforts to ensure preservation of the Anishnaabemowin
language through academic programming and
immersive technology.
We're a leader in
Indigenous education
and language
preservation.
