This seminar will assist dog owners, animal-care professionals, foster parents and rescue workers to better understand the dogs they work and live with. As featured on Rogers daytime television, this seminar provides students with the tools necessary to better understand dogs, their needs and recognize early warning signs of behaviour issues by reading canine body language, learning positive training techniques, having the necessary supplies, and understanding how to be the alpha that dogs need you to be. GINT 0148 | 4 HRS l Fee: $112.12 Canine Behaviour 102 – Separation Anxiety When your dog is destroying your house, irritating the neighbours or injuring itself every time you leave the home, is it separation anxiety? How can you tell? Where can you turn for help? Separation disorders are one of the leading causes of owner frustration and if left untreated, these situations often escalate to an unbearable and even dangerous level. This course is designed to arm canine rescue workers, trainers and dog owners with the knowledge to understand and treat mild-to-moderate separation disorders. Topics include separation anxiety versus frustration, the nature of attachment and separation, the truth about frustration, understanding separation anxiety, treatment options for separation disorders, helpful medications and when to use them, and preventative measures. GINT 0196 | 4 HRS l Fee: $112.12 Canine Behaviour 103 – Canine Resource Guarding Resource guarding is characterized as an aggressive reaction toward a person/animal with the intent to protect a valued resource, such as food or a toy. This course is designed to arm canine rescue workers, trainers and dog owners with the knowledge to understand and treat mild-to-moderate cases of resource guarding. Students identify types of guarding and isolating triggers as they assess cases and how to manage them. GINT 0222 | 4 HRS l Fee: $112.12 Canine Behaviour 104 – Canine Territorial Guarding Territorial response behaviours include everything from alert barking to aggressive displays and attack behaviours leading to serious injuries. Students review the process of domestication in urban and family environments and how to work with a dog's natural tendencies to reduce the risk of injury. Students identify the early signs of territorial behaviour in young dogs that are often either dismissed or confused with a fear response. Students learn how to develop a management program best suited for the individual dog and their unique living situation. Students discuss how environmental factors are an integral part of the assessment. The information in this course is geared toward shelter workers, dog trainers, behavioural consultants, canine handlers, veterinary technicians, shelter staff, doggy daycare attendants and foster parents for canine rescue groups.
