6 GEORGIANVIEW SPRING 2023 ATHLETICS | The Georgian women's volleyball team celebrate a hard-fought win on the court. The season was filled with many injuries and challenges, but the women showed true Grizzly grit and tenacity − never quitting and battling hard every game. After a prolonged province-wide hibernation, Georgian's varsity sports teams came roaring to life this past year. Dominating on and off the court, field and green Georgian students rose to the occasion time and time again. "Being a Grizzly means more than just competing in your sport. Being a Grizzly means inspiring athletic excellence and a commitment to creating greater inclusion in sport as a whole," shared David Laliberte, Manager, Athletics and Recreation. "We are thrilled to see our Grizzlies return to compete at a high level against colleagues across the province," continued David. "With this being the first full season back, and many new faces joining our teams, I am extremely proud of all the work that was done by everyone to make this year even more special than the last." on the court, the field and the green From the highs of championship wins, Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) medals, Provincial and National Athletes of the Week, and academic success, to the lows of injury and long travel days, the Grizzlies have shown grit, determination, and resiliency in the face of adversity all season long. "Sport challenges you to face adversity head on. To rally around your fallen teammates and support them through these challenges," reflected David. "Sport prepares you for life after sport. It can teach values such as fairness, team building, equality, discipline, inclusion, perseverance, and respect. Sport has the power to provide a universal framework for learning values, thus contributing to the development of soft skills needed for responsible citizenship."
