4 GEORGIANVIEW SPRING 2023 GREETINGS Ahniin, She:Kon, Tanshi, which means hello in Ojibwe, Mohawk and Métis. Since arriving at Georgian, I've had the opportunity to meet many of you – first in my role as Dean, then in my roles as Vice President and now as your President and CEO. What made those connections so meaningful were the stories you shared with me. Stories connect us. They can inspire, influence and educate. They can make us feel seen as well as better understand others. They can move us into allyship and action. All your stories reminded me of the power education truly has to transform lives. Alumni shared how Georgian helped them to launch or change careers, improve circumstances for themselves and their families, or open doors they never would have thought possible. Donors shared the varied reasons why they give back – everything from the impact of a caring employee who helped them persist while a student, to wanting to support someone in realizing their dreams. This issue of GeorgianView is influenced by all those stories you told me and have shared with Team Georgian. Inside these pages, you'll find a collection of compelling features about our graduates whose journeys connect and intersect across the globe. You can learn about the achievements of our 2022 Premier's Awards nominees, discover how Black community members are shaping the region and beyond, and see how the college is growing, innovating and continuing to nurture the next generation of changemakers, leaders and compassionate citizens. You never know the impact your story can have on someone else, which is why I encourage you to keep us updated on your adventures. We would love to hear from you and are extremely grateful for all you continue to do for the college and our students. Chi-Miigwech. I am very fortunate to have this unique opportunity to engage in such profound ways with my alma mater, now three decades after graduating. As Chair of the Alumni Association Executive Council, I feel privileged to volunteer alongside a passionate group of graduates committed to enriching the lives of students and fellow alums. A hearty congratulations to the new graduates who are reading their first issue of GeorgianView . I also say thank you to all the alumni who have engaged with us over the past academic year as mentors, advisors, changemakers, employers and have donated to our fundraising campaigns directly supporting the student experience − thank you! Being a Georgian alum isn't transactional – it's a lifelong connection. You are part of a proud family of more than 95,000 alumni who have shared a common turning point in their educational lives − studying at Georgian. Whether you experienced Georgian at one of our seven campuses or studied in Toronto at Georgian@ILAC, we are all connected by the same Grizzly pride. You've heard it before, and I'll repeat it: please reach out and connect with the Alumni Engagement team. If we don't have your email or mailing address, you're missing out. Your alumni association is here to support you professionally, socially or through continuing education. Keep your information updated on georgianalumni.ca, follow us on social media and connect with the team at Georgian to share your latest updates on where your life has taken you, or ask us how we can do more for you now or in the future.
