23 GEORGIANVIEW SPRING 2023 wOMEN'S INTUITION At the end of 2022, Georgian celebrated an incredible milestone of raising more than $770,000 towards the WOMEN'S inTUITION campaign. With an original goal of $750,000, over 259 donors helped surpass the fundraising target. More than 235 different awards, scholarships, and bursaries, as well as a permanent endowment have been created as part of the campaign. The WOMEN'S inTUITION campaign was founded in 2015 by Giselle Bodkin, a partner with BDO Barrie and long-time member of Georgian's Advancement Committee. It was established to help tackle financial barriers for women studying at Georgian. Giselle was inspired by her late sister-in-law, Leanne, a registered nurse who put herself through Georgian's nursing program. Before she tragically passed away from brain cancer, she had a long and fulfilling career as a nurse. "I often think back to Leanne," recalls Giselle. "She started as a bartender and worked tirelessly at that job while studying part-time in Georgian's nursing program to build a new career and life for herself." To celebrate the milestone, supporters were treated to a morning of special performances and displays featuring Barrie's first female Poet Laureate, Victoria Butler and local artist, Alexandra Gronfors, who painted live a work of art reflecting the themes of the initiative.
