After a four-year absence due to the pandemic, Georgian's
annual Traditional Pow Wow returned to the Barrie
Campus on March 11, 2023.
The theme, selected by students, was Honouring the Cycle
of Life. Students, alumni, faculty, staff members, and the
public came together to participate, celebrate and learn
about Indigenous culture, crafts, food, song and dance.
Over the course of the day, over 2,000 people participated
in the Pow Wow − the largest attendance to date for any
Georgian Pow Wow.
"To once again gather on campus in person to hear
the sound of the drums, see the amazing colours and
craftsmanship in the regalia, view the different dance
styles, experience the rhythm and flow of the day together
with students, alumni, family members and Georgian
staff was incredible," said Greg McGregor, Manager,
Indigenous Services and Access Programs.
The Pow Wow planning committee consists entirely of
Georgian students who organize the logistics and host
the event. Together with the Georgian College Students'
Association, attendees were encouraged to donate non-
perishable food items to support the Georgian Foodlocker.
