CONVOCATION 2023 | GeorgianCollege.ca 29 #ProudGeorgianGrad Board of Governors' Honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies Degree 2023 recipient (10 a.m.) Peter B. Moore President and CEO of Moore Packaging. Peter will receive an Honorary Honours Bachelor of Business Administration Degree In 1979, Peter started out building boxes in his garage and selling them to local businesses. Today, Moore Packaging is a leading Barrie manufacturer, consisting of a full warehouse and office facility producing customized, high quality packaging; it employs 225 people. Peter's generous philanthropy in support of Georgian College through the Peter B. Moore Changemaker Space and Peter B. Moore Advanced Technology Centre is advancing opportunities for students, faculty and graduates and strengthening the economy. In 2018, he received the Community Partner Award of Distinction from the Board of Governors for his significant support of Georgian's strategic priorities. Peter is active in the leadership of industry associations and has served on numerous boards representing Barrie's theatre, hospital foundation and Chamber of Commerce. Featured alumni speaker (3 p.m.) Arjun Batra Mechanical Engineering Technology – Automotive Manufacturing (class of 2007) Arjun was awarded Top 40 under 40 by the Brampton Board of Trade in 2019 and received the County of Simcoe Newcomer Recognition Community Champion Award in 2013. In 2008, Arjun founded Doon Academy, where he tutored math and later founded Doon School, a private institution with over 2,000 graduates. He is also President and CEO of Ace Auto Sales and Leasing, a wholesale car dealership, and First Construction Real Estate Group. Continuing his education, Arjun earned a bachelor's degree from Thompson Rivers University and a dual Master of Business Administration degree from Queen's University in partnership with Cornell University. He is an external member of the Advancement Committee at Georgian College's Board of Governors and a founding Board Director of the South Asian Association of Simcoe County. A passionate advocate and supporter of Georgian, Arjun, the past Chair of the Alumni Association Executive Council, was the first international student-turned-alumni to hold the position.
