Guiding documents that inspire and inform our Indigenization strategy Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's (TRC) 94 Calls to Action – In 2015, the TRC released a report addressing the legacy of colonialism and residential schools and the impact on Indigenous people. Included in this report are 94 Calls to Action, which are legal imperatives that provide a roadmap to reconciliation for governments, churches, and other institutions, including educational. Colleges and Institutes Canada's (CICan) Indigenous Education Protocol – In 2015, CICan's Indigenous Education Protocol outlined seven principles to guide postsecondary institutions to address the needs of Indigenous learners and support the self-determination of Indigenous communities. Georgian became a signatory to this document in 2015. National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (NIMMIWG) 231 Calls for Justice – In 2019, the NIMMIWG commissioners simultaneously released their final report and 231 Calls for Justice to redress the legacy of violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. The 231 Calls for Justice are directed at governments, institutions, social service providers, industries, and all Canadians. United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) – The UN passed this legally non-binding resolution in 2007, which was adopted by Canada in 2010. UNDRIP defines and affirms the individual and collective rights of Indigenous people, including the right for Indigenous people to control and establish their own systems of education. Georgian's Strategic Plan – The college's Strategic Plan 2022-24 includes deepened and expanded Indigenization. The strategies for this are: • Action the principles of the Indigenous Education Protocol, informed by the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, to transform the college community • Expand and enrich curriculum to reflect Indigenous perspectives, increasing reciprocity among Indigenous and non- Indigenous people Community Engagement Report – In 2022, surveys and interviews were undertaken with internal and external stakeholders (Indigenous students; Indigenous Studies and Services employees; Indigenous community members; and members of Team Georgian).
