CONVOCATION 2022 | GeorgianCollege.ca 7
Jocelyn Leworthy is a graduate of
Georgian's Early Childhood Education
program (class of 2015).
Jocelyn struggled as a child from the
psychosocial impacts of albinism, a rare
condition that causes a lack of pigmentation
in her hair and skin, and a visual impairment
that cannot be addressed with corrective
lenses. She's now an award-winning child life
specialist who's dedicated most of her career
to supporting children and families impacted
by cancer. In 2016, Jocelyn was invited to
appear in the Ontario Legislative Assembly as
a donor advocate, and in 2021, was appointed
to a planning committee with the Simcoe
Muskoka Public Health Unit to support the
psychosocial needs of children attending
COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
Jocelyn volunteers her time creating
psychosocial programs for children through
the National Organization for Albinism and
Hypo-pigmentation, and volunteers with
multiple hospitals including Sick Kids, RVH
and OSMH. In 2021, she received a 40 under
40 in Cancer award for her work with children
living with cancer. The award recognizes the
contributions being made across the field
of oncology by rising stars and emerging
leaders under the age of 40 throughout
North America.
