28 GEORGIANVIEW SPRING 2022 ALUMNI FUND Sabrina Tigwell (class of 2024) loves being on the water, just like her father Kevin, who graduated in 1984 from Georgian's Marine Technology – Navigation program. Almost 40 years later, Sabrina is enrolled in the same program, eager to pursue this instilled passion. "Growing up it was sailing, rowing, kayaking, and everything we could do on the water," Sabrina says. "That's how my dad grew up. His summers were spent on his family's sailboat, and we followed suit." In high school, she served as a tall ship tour guide at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene, where her father worked as a shipwright. She then attended Brock University to compete on the varsity rowing team. Pursuing a career in marine navigation was always top of mind, even while studying medical sciences as an undergrad. Throughout university, Sabrina frequently watched High Arctic Haulers on CBC and dreamt about working on the cargo vessels that deliver vital supplies to Nunavut. "That could be my job one day," she says, adding, "I would absolutely love to go north to support isolated northern communities." Once she finished rowing at Brock, Sabrina knew it was time to dive in and follow her dream, enrolling in Georgian's advanced diploma program for Marine Navigation. Georgian runs in the family: following in her father's footsteps | Sabrina enrolled in the Marine Navigation program her father completed almost 40 years ago.
