AVIATION
Launching a career in aviation during a global pandemic
wasn't a challenge alumna Mahnoor Khokhar (class of
2019) signed up for, but one she navigated skillfully,
despite planes being grounded worldwide. She credits
her hands-on experience at Georgian and her dependable
mentor for steering her down the runway to success.
As a student in Georgian's Aviation Management
program, Mahnoor had the opportunity to complete a
co-op placement at charter airline Air Georgian, where
she found a mentor that instilled in her a 'can-do' attitude.
She gained confidence through the support and guidance
offered by her superiors, who challenged her to take the
lead on an intimidating inventory project.
After I did that, I really got into the mindset of "if I put my
mind to it, if I use my education, if I use my motivation and
combine it, there's nothing I cannot do," she says.
After graduation, she carried that confidence into a full-
time role at Pivot Airlines, where she was responsible for
the entire supply chain department. It was a demanding
position, but Mahnoor was fortunate to work with great
leaders once again.
With another year of experience under her wings,
Mahnoor made the leap to a challenging position at
Porter Airlines, where she's worked since September
2021, most recently as Manager, Stores and Inventory
Control.
"I've learned so many things. I've had the opportunity
to train people, and update training manuals for my
department. I'm involved in key decision making and have
the privilege of managing a team. People and resource
management combined with the day-to-day activities
make this a very rewarding experience," she says.
Another important aspect of Mahnoor's career journey
is giving back to the profession through mentorship.
Mahnoor serves as vice president of the junior board of
directors for the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, where
she has the opportunity to connect with young women in
aviation.
Mahnoor sees endless possibilities for her career on the
horizon. She has ambitions to obtain a PhD in Aviation
Management, teach in the field, and become a chief
operating officer for an airline.
"I have a set goal and I don't let anything distract me from
that goal ," she says". Because of the decisions I've made
or because of the decisions that people around me have
helped me make, this is why I am where I am."
