That changed in July 2021 when she applied to Fanotech, a company in Bracebridge that manufactures large garbage bins, trash compactors, trailers and mining equipment. Gracii's job as a welder is to weld bins together once a crane puts the bottom of the bin down and the construction starts from the bottom up. After only three months, she was promoted to building her own bins. It's a company that clearly supports women in the trades. "I'm really enjoying it. The guys there are really great," she says. "During my first couple of weeks, I had to ask one of them to help because I was not physically capable of removing a pole that got stuck in the jig for a door post. So, I went up and asked one of the guys to help me and I said, 'My girlish arms can't do this.' And he was like, 'Nope. We don't do that here. If you need help, you ask for help but you do not blame it on anything like that.' I said, OK." Moving forward, Gracii's focus is to learn all she can about Fanotech's products and how to produce them. This focus has always been the path for her success. "I loved the fact that everybody there didn't look at me as a girl that can't do anything. They actually looked at me like I have potential. I could do the same things as any of the guys could." | As soon as Gracii held a welding gun she felt empowered. "I just want to learn how to do the mining equipment or do the trailers, do the trash compactors - Everything and anything – I want to be on top of it," she says. "I want to be the best and learn as much as I can because the more you know, the more valuable you are to your employer."
