Entrepreneurship GeorgianCollege.ca/HBEC Want to be your own boss? HBEC will empower you by connecting you with a mentor, helping you build a business plan and showing you how to access funding to get your business idea off the ground. Alex Brown is a Georgian alumnus, partner in several successful eCommerce startups in California, and one of 15 mentors who coaches HBEC clients. "As someone who is really passionate about building ecosystems to support the growth of small businesses and entrepreneurs, I was blown away by what HBEC has been doing right in my hometown. I believe HBEC will soon be one of Canada's leading hubs for entrepreneurial growth and innovation," he says. We instill entrepreneurial thinking into all of our programs, so you'll become a problem solver with a solutions mindset. With the help of the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre (HBEC) our students and members of the public have successfully developed their own products and businesses such as a bakery, car detailing service, a line of pasta products and an event management business. All of the staff are wildly passionate. They're devoted to their clients and building a truly supportive community for helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. It's an honour to be part of a team like this! Alex Brown, HBEC mentor | graduate of the Business Administration program Birdy Project | Inspired by the battle against poaching in the Congo, this bioacoustics project takes avian research to a new level. Field officers at Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority have worked with Georgian since 2018 to develop a tool that analyzes field recordings to identify local bird calls with great accuracy. What did I learn? There are two aspects to this. The first is technical: building a machine learning model convolutional neural network, which is the technology employed for image and species recognition. And the second is project management. We were working with real clients and they had expectations. Komal Shah, Team Lead, Birdy Project | graduate of the Big Data Analytics program ENTREPRENEURSHIP, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION 19 ENTREPRENEURSHIP, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION | GeorgianCollege.ca
