Indigenous Services GeorgianCollege.ca/indigenousservices Jennifer Hayward started her program in a pandemic as a 52-year-old mature student. "I've never set foot on campus and I've been out of school a long time. It was really challenging – being not very computer savvy – but my contact in Indigenous Services, Michele, made everything smooth. She let me know when bursaries were available. She helped me with Blackboard and Banner. She told me about APA workshops. She connected me with the library so I could borrow a laptop for the semester. Through her, I also attended lunches with Ernestine, the visiting Elder." I want to let other Indigenous students know that you can go to school at any age. You will get the help you need. Jennifer Hayward | Anishnaabemowin and Program Development student GeorgianCollege.ca/student-life Georgian is where I started to learn who I really am. Ishaan Sachdeva | Business graduate and current Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Management and Leadership) student Ishaan Sachdeva picked Georgian because it offers many leadership and co-curricular opportunities. The award-winning business degree student is a changemaker who loves to get involved. In fact, he's held student leadership positions since he was a junior house captain in grade five, in New Delhi, India. In his first semester, Ishaan started the Enactus Georgian club, which won a National Rookie Club Award. He's since led several innovative college projects and events. Now, he's bringing his passion for social impact to his role as Barrie Georgian College Students' Association (GCSA) President. In addition to supporting a wide variety of initiatives – Orientation, social events, clubs, athletics, and more – Ishaan is advocating for free female hygiene products in campus washrooms. But he didn't become the powerhouse he is today without a little help. "I've used every service at Georgian. Every single one," he says with a laugh. "And I encourage new students to get involved and use college resources as well."
