PART-TIME AND ONLINE ONTARIO COLLEGE GRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS 18 Therapeutic Recreation prepares students to work within recreation, health or social service delivery systems serving individuals with illness or disabilities. Gain the skills to complete client assessments, develop and evaluate group and individualized programs, and use a variety of facilitative techniques to assist individuals to participate in meaningful recreational activities that will enhance health, improve functional ability and increase quality of life. The program is based on a firm belief of the inherent benefits of play, recreation and leisure to all individuals. Learn to adapt recreation activities so individuals with a variety of disabling conditions can participate and use recreation as a therapeutic tool to improve/restore health and wellness. Therapeutic Recreation is offered on a part-time basis in partnership with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Students are provided with hands-on experience and focus on the entire research process. Students formulate research questions, develop research designs, collect information from primary and secondary sources, perform data analysis, interpret results, communicate findings, and develop strategic recommendations. Additional features of the program include an emphasis on traditional and emerging qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the use of technology, effective communication processes, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.
