Message from Georgian's President
and CEO
Aaniin, Boozhoo, She:kon, Tansi! Welcome to Georgian's 15th Traditional Pow
Wow. Thousands of people will join the festivities today at our Barrie Campus,
which sits on the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg people.
Our Pow Wow is one of many taking place across the region as communities
gather to celebrate culture and traditions handed down from generation to
generation. I know each of you – our Elders, dancers, drummers, vendors and
visitors – will appreciate and enjoy the incredible song, food, art and dance.
Georgian offers Indigenous programs and houses resource centres that
bring together students and community. We are committed to creating a
more thoughtful and inclusive environment at the college. Initiatives include
enhancing curriculum to reflect Indigenous culture and traditions, and enriching
the Georgian experience by engaging in knowledge-sharing activities led by
Indigenous leaders. I want to say Miigwech, Nia:wen, Marsee and thank you
to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to planning this spectacular
celebration – including our talented students.
While you are on campus, I invite you to explore what Georgian has to offer.
Take a look around, tour our facilities, and talk to our knowledgeable and
friendly staff. See why being here can lead to amazing things!
Enjoy the Pow Wow and I hope to see you again soon.
Kind regards,
MaryLynn West-Moynes
