The largest gift to phase two of the Power of Education came from those with a direct stake in the outcome – the
students. The GCSA made a $7.2-million commitment to the campaign that supported a number of priorities across
Georgian campuses, including renovations to student spaces in Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound, stage one of the sports
field development at the Barrie Campus and the implementation of a student portal providing anytime, anywhere access
for all Georgian students.
The GCSA's support for the first stage of development of the sports field led to an inspiring $500,000 donation from the
campaign's Honorary Chair Jamie Massie and the Massie family. The project included a digital scoreboard and full lighting
to allow an extended season for both varsity and local high school sports events.
