CHANGEMAKERS ON CAMPUS JOIN TEAM GEORGIAN Rotary Club of Barrie Annual Fun Run Georgian staff, students, alumni, volunteers and their families and friends can register for Team Georgian. Online registration opens March 1, 2019 GeorgianCollege.ca/funrun The Rotary Club of Barrie uses a portion of money raised at this event to support its $250,000 commitment to Georgian's Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences. Rick Hansen, Canada's Man in Motion, known for his activism and philanthropic efforts, was the featured speaker at Georgian College's 50th birthday celebration on Oct. 5, 2017. Addressing a crowd of 1,400 people, he spoke about how persistence and perseverance can help in the growth of a community and effect change. Gwen Boniface provided a keynote presentation at this year's Board of Governors Awards of Distinction on May 3, 2018. She was the first female Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police and the first female President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. She was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2016. Peter B. Moore was honoured with the Community Partner Award on May 3, 2018 after generously donating $250,000 to establish the Peter B. Moore Changemaker Space at the Barrie Campus. The space is a beehive of activity and students from across Georgian use it to collaborate on changemaking projects and startup initiatives. Neil Pasricha, best-selling author of The Book of Awesome, Pasricha inspired attendees by sharing his recipe for happiness and success as part of Georgian's 2018 September start-up events.
