CELEBRATING GEORGIAN CHANGEMAKERS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION REACHES NEW MILESTONE W hat do a Google employee, paramedic, founder of a women's refugee network, massage therapist, president of an engineering association, and VP at WestJet have in common? They're all Georgian grads, changemakers and nominees for this year's Premier's Awards! Be inspired by their incredible stories – and stories of some of our other 75,000 alumni – in this issue of GeorgianView. You can also learn about our new Advanced Technology Centre opening this fall at the Barrie Campus, discover why we were recently recognized as Canada's first and only changemaker college, and get to know Adam Dixon and Brad Bowen – two amazing grads and Paralympians who we couldn't be more proud of. I encourage you to stay connected by visiting us on campus or catching up on highlights throughout the year at GeorgianCollege.ca. And don't hesitate to reach out to our alumni office. We'd love to hear from you! E arlier this year, our alumni relations team accepted the task of developing a new three-year strategic plan called Connect 2021. It is a bold and ambitious plan, designed to develop strong, collaborative relationships with our members and to provide meaningful ways for our members to stay involved with our alma mater. As a student at Georgian, I had no idea how important our alumni family was to my success. Georgian alumni are college ambassadors, program advisors and student mentors. We participate on committees, provide co-op opportunities for students and hire graduates. We are also investors, whether contributing to program enhancements, supporting initiatives like the student food locker, or contributing to awards and scholarships – our gifts are helping the next generation of students to reach their full potential. This year our Alumni Association reached a new milestone as our family of proud Georgian graduates reached 75,000. In a year when Georgian College was designated an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus, it made sense to dedicate this issue to honouring some of the changemakers in our family. We hope you read this issue of GeorgianView with pride, because our family is changing the world and I hope you will consider how you can help us to be even stronger in the days and years ahead.
