LINDSAY GEIGER Recent Graduate category MASSAGE THERAPY, 2014 REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST Lindsay Geiger graduated from Georgian's Massage Therapy program in 2014 and in her very short career as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) has travelled the globe and worked with some of the world's largest sporting leagues and events. She credits Georgian for preparing her for a life on the international sporting stage. While at Georgian, Lindsay completed a co-op with the Georgian Grizzlies varsity teams, which provided her hands-on experience in working with athletes and provided invaluable insight in both pre- injury and post-injury treatment. "Having the ability to treat real people in real-world situations was a real game-changer for me," says Lindsay. "Pre-injury and post-injury treatment with athletes is really important and I was able to ask a lot of questions and learn from their experiences." Since graduating, Lindsay has treated professional athletes from the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, Canadian Women's Hockey League, National Basketball League and the Canadian Olympic team. She was an on-site RMT at the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto and at the Swatch Beach Volleyball World Championships. Other opportunities include working with the Canadian Men's Rugby Team and with Hockey Canada on numerous occasions, including a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Hockey Development Camp in Calgary, and the 2018 U20 World Hockey Championships in Buffalo, where Team Canada struck gold. She also worked with the Canadian Olympic swimming and rowing teams in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where athletes from these disciplines captured seven Olympic medals. In 2017, Lindsay travelled with the Canadian delegation to work as a volunteer massage therapist at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, where Team Canada captured 68 medals. In addition to her volunteer work in Israel, Lindsay is now in her third term as the public relations chair for the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association, travels to schools and colleges to engage with future massage therapists, and offers volunteer tutoring to college students – both in person and through digital platforms. She also shares her talent with the World Gymnastics, Ringette, Ontario Women's Hockey Association Championships, and volunteers with the Million Dollar Smiles Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports families with children facing adversity from life-threatening illnesses. When asked about her volunteer efforts, Lindsay says, "Giving back is one of my favourite parts of the job." 21 GEORGIANVIEW 2018 PREMIER'S AWARDS
